Does getting a tattoo hurt?
There is some discomfort — most people describe it as very tolerable. Pain varies by placement (bony areas like ribs, feet, and hands tend to be more sensitive than the forearm or thigh), by size, and by your own tolerance. Your artist will work with you and take breaks as needed.
How old do I have to be to get tattooed?
You must be 18 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID. This is Texas state law and we do not make exceptions, even with parental consent. Please bring your ID to every appointment or walk-in.
Do you take walk-ins or do I need an appointment?

Are consultations free?
Yes — every consultation at For the People is free, whether you book ahead or stop in. It is the best way to talk through your idea, style, placement, and an honest estimate.
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
Keep it clean, moisturized, and out of the sun while it heals over 2–3 weeks. Use a fragrance-free soap and a thin layer of healing ointment, and avoid swimming and picking. Our full tattoo aftercare guide walks through every step.
How much does a tattoo cost?
Starting rates are $120–$250 per hour depending on the artist, with half-day and full-day rates for larger work. Price reflects detail, size, and time — not just dimensions. See our Austin pricing guide, and ask for an estimate at your free consultation.
Do you require a deposit?
For booked appointments, a deposit is typically required to reserve your artist’s time and goes toward the final cost. We confirm the exact amount when you book.
What is Widdle Wednesday?
Every Wednesday we run Widdle Wednesday — 20% off tattoos up to $500 total. No code needed; just book your session on a Wednesday and save.
What is your reschedule and no-show policy?
We offer a 72-hour courtesy window to reschedule with no penalty. Multiple reschedules may incur a fee, and no-call no-shows or changes inside 72 hours can void your deposit.
What styles do you tattoo?

Do you do cover-ups?
Yes. Cover-ups are very design-dependent, so we always start with a free consultation to assess the existing tattoo.
